This curious web surfer collects lost luggage, opens it, photographs the contents and posts them on the web. Maybe you’ll find your suitcase.
Someone out there is missing these things
Collectors know no limits. A few days ago, we told you about that guy who collects garbage around New York, puts it in little boxes and sells it. We thought that was pretty incredible and we figured he had to be the strangest collector in history, until we found Is this your luggage, a web site created by a person (we’re not sure whether it’s a man or a woman) who collects none other than lost luggage. And how does this collector acquire the lost luggage? According to the web site, when an airport is unable to locate the owner of a lost suitcase, the suitcase sold at a public auction and the benefits are donated to charity. Interesting, isn’t it?
Well, our protagonist attends these auctions and keeps on bidding until he (or she) obtains a suitcase. Then, our mysterious collector opens it, arranges and folds its contents on a flat surface and photographs them, making careful compositions of clothing and accessories.
The author acknowledges that this penchant for photographing suitcases is somewhat unusual, but claims it’s no weirder than collecting stamps, even though stamps don’t take up much space. How many empty rooms do you need to store all this luggage? The aim is that someone might recognize their luggageon the web site (only 5 suitcases have been posted so far), and contact the collector in order to retrieve it.
Any airport executives reading this should take note and hire this person to help them find the rightful owners of all those lost suitcases. The airlines would save a fortunate and this curious voyeur would be able to make a living from his/her passion.
