Proyecto Cartele is a collective archive of photographed posters that include unusual, surprising, and very comical messages.

Very practical in case you haven’t got any tissues on you

For years, a group of 3 friends form Argentina, armed with their cameras, dedicated themselves to immortalizing the most curious and amazing posters they could find on the street: advertisements, store signs, official orders, or threatening messages from pissed-off neighbors.

Some years later, Machi Mendieta’s, Gastón Silberman’s and Esteban Seimandi’s favorite pastime become Proyecto Cartele, a very extensive photographic archive that they decided to present as a book.

They simultaneously created a web site, which is updated with new posters and which, thanks to the "Participate" section, has made it possible to make the project known to everyone. Thousands of readers send in their favorite signs, those they’ve found on their travels or in their own cities.

Their most ambitious book is "Liquidación total por saqueo" (something akin to "Going Out of Business Sale Because We’ve Been Looted") a title they got off a sign posted in shop. It doesn’t just have pictures of hilarious messages, there’s also a section where different advertising executives and graphic designers are asked to perform a difficult task, for instance, how would they have developed the corporate image for an eatery called the "Happy Burp"? These and other mysteries are revealed in the book.

It’s a good book to keep at your bedside; it’ll help you forget everything when you’ve had a bad day.
