Use chalk to write on a globe, a breakfast mug, or on the walls in your home. They’re made of slate.
You won’t forget to call the plumber
Slate is one of the most practical media ever invented for writing. It’s reusable, incredibly easy to clean and ideal for leaving anonymous messages and pissing the teacher off. Blackboards have watched us grow up, but new technologies are now all the rage and gradually blackboards will disappear from the classroom to make way for digital boards. They’re much uglier but also more suitable since they offer almost as many options as a word processor.
But the blackboard hasn’t disappeared; it’s been reinvented into everyday products. We have several ideas to help you incorporate the traditional blackboard in your day-to-day life.
Blackboard Sticker
Put a giant sticker or vinyl on any flat surface in your home. It’s black and shaped like a building. All you have to do is decorate it! Get some chalk, and start drawing. Although the photograph features a little girl, this blackboard has surely kept more than one bored thirty-something-year old busy.
Blackboard Mug
Perfect for the absent-minded and for all those who are constantly making "to-do lists". Write yourself a memo on this blackboard-mug. Over breakfast, your mug will remind you to call the plumber. Instead of using thousands of post-its, join the trend and write on your mug.
Sphere-shaped Blackboard
This blank world globe is one of the star products at Muji. Its wooden base hides compartments to keep pieces of chalk. Use it to leave messages, study geography with your child or play cars, like you’ll see in this video:
Blackboards on your computer too
You can use a blackboard at work to jot down the boss’ orders you or to write reminder notes. It’s an online note pad that looks like a blackboard. It’s called Pizarrín ("little blackboard") and you can click here to use it.
We’ve also found a chalk message generator and that you can customize with different blackboard backgrounds: a hangman, a math equation, or some words in French. We’ve seen it at Glass Giant.
And lastly, we cannot fail to mention the most famous blackboard on television, the one Bart Simpson writes on. At Add Letters you can spend hours writing nonsense. Your messages will appear on the famous blackboard at the start of The Simpson’s show.
