Solar Powered Toys

A new fad is making waves: toys that run on solar energy and don’t need batteries.

Experts say it is the energy source of the future. It’s green energy, renewable, and clean. And it’s obtained directly from the sun. Solar energy is not just used for heating; it’s also used to run certain devices.

Installing solar panelsfor domestic use is becoming more and more commonplace and in countries such as Japan more and more devices are now designed to run on this type of energy.

And, although these devices may seem like the be all and end all, solar powered products have been in use for years. Who hasn’t held a solar powered battery in his hand?

These devices are now in style and solar powered toys are being manufactured in various shapes, colors and designs. Many are simple toys and are not necessarily targeted at children.

Flip Flap plants, for example, don’t need water, although, like any plant, they will not grow without sunlight. The sun’s rays activate a mechanism that allows the plant to move without having to plug it in to the light grid or use batteries. You can buy them at our shop. Nohodon are colorful dolls that move their heads up and down. They are designed to prevent office workers from dying of boredom, so they’ll have something to distract them at their workstations. Flufleur are plants that bloom when exposed to sunlight and that also react to sound. And the Kotoridayori are birds that chirp while they sunbathe.

All these toys have a tiny solar panel built into their bases and must be placed near a window so they’ll receive as much light as possible.

Would you like to see how they work? Hit play:

At Curiosite.com we have several products that run on solar energy. A jar-shaped lamp that you have to put near a window during the day so that it will receive and store the sun’s rays. At night, you’ll have a free source of light. This lamp will last you a lifetime. Or a hand-cranked radio that runs on solar power. No longer will you need to steal batteries from the TV remote.

Get used to using this type of energy, a few years from now it may well be the only available source.
