Along HK’s minimalist lines, a raccoon who loves classical music
Probably just to keep Sanrio’s employees sane, in these more than 30 years Hello Kitty’s companions have multiplied like rabbits. Since her leitmotiv is that whole “I want to make a million friends” spiel, the roster of characters is countless and conforms an orgy of insipidness and surrealism that fills even the most tormented souls with joy.
Each of Hello Kitty’s friends is endowed with its own idiosyncrasies. Some incredible outstanding characteristics, clearly thought up by a delirious mind, distinguish them and give them personality. For instance, Chococat, is friendly but likes to gossip; Pandapple, lives in an apple, sits on an apple arm chair and eats apples; Monkichi, is a monkey who thinks himself a poet; Purin, a dog that does nothing but take naps and go for walks with his friend; Landry, a music loving raccoon who’s obsessed with doing laundry and adores Mozart; and Pochacco, a vegetarian puppy who’s keen on sports.
In short, a universe only the Japanese could possibly have created, invariably alien to the most fundamentals laws of logic, and that has managed to infiltrate not just the soggy minds of 12-year-old girls, but also those of full-grown women.
But that’s why we have “La Résistance”: Kittyhell.com is a site created by a man who was “fed up with being overloaded with cute”. The man was tired of the Christmas spirit that possessed his wife decades ago and he analyzes the Hello Kitty phenomenon from a sensible point of view.
