It’s a shiny, cuddly rabbit made of durable nylon and, above all, it’s very cute. It’s compact and measures only 25cm. Because it’s made out of nylon, its long ears and legs have a definite shaped as do the face and cheeks.

However, this is more than just a cute toy. If you open the zipper on its back, you’ll find a bag inside! This stuffed animal-bag is called “Picnica”. It was created by a designer duo who call themselves "EDING:POST", Tomohiro Kato and Satoshi Hasegawa.

You can carry it over your shoulders and it has enough capacity (330 x 9 x 300 mm) to carry a 1.5 liter bottle of water, or a large sketchpad. It is lightweight yet bears no comparison to those cheap bags you see around. This bag has been meticulously designed up to the tiniest detail. The handles, for instance, have been sewn on with cross-stitching so that they can bear more weight.

When the bag is folded inside, in looks like a cute rabbit doll whose head, legs and tail have been stuffed with a soft fluffy material, so it won’t lose its perfect bunny shape. The ears and tail are used as tabs to make the zipper. The basic colors are: black, brown, grey, and also a bright and lively shade of orange.

You can use this bag anywhere: take it to school, use it for grocery shopping, or take it to work… If you carry the bunny in your purse, you’ll have a practical bag available whenever you need one. It’s also the perfect travel accessory, an extra bag to carry your purchases so you won’t have to pay excess baggage fees.

The rabbit and the bag are inseparable. It almost looks like the bunny is inviting you to go on a picnic. Why don’t you put an Obento and a book inside and take the bunny on a picnic?

This is a limited edition, so hurry up if you don’t want to be left without your Picnica. You can buy Picnica bag at Curiosite.

Interview with EDING:POST’s designers
Tomohiro Kato and Satoshi Hasegawa

Can you tell us why you’ve created this product?
In Japan today we throw out a lot of things that are still usable. There are too many products, but a lot of people don’t seem at all grateful for the things they have. That’s why we wanted to create something that would solve the question: how might the Japanese become a bit fonder of the things that surround them? That’s how the bunny was born.

What features have you emphasized?
We focused on the amount of filling that went in its tummy, on how the bag would work and on its strength. We wanted it to be a good bag, and we wanted the bunny to have a cute design. That’s why we experimented a lot in order to achieve that.

Any anecdotes with regards to the material?
We picked a material that provides a perfect balance and allows us to make a rabbit that is pretty and also works well as a bag.
