An association that promotes Japanese industrial design organizes the contest and, last week, they announced the winners of the 2008 edition. Although it wasn’t picked as one of the 15 best in the contest, this retro-style wooden robot, called Korejanai Robo, has received one of the prizes awarded by a jury made up of designers, journalists and architects.
According to its creators, this robot is a tribute to all those little boys who always wanted to have a robot and never got one. Korejanai is Japanese for “This is not it”, which is probably what the little boy would scream each time he asked for a robot for Christmas only to get GI-Joe or a He-Man action figure, “This is not it! This is not what I wanted!”
The Korejanai Robo is made of wood and its design reproduces the classic robot shape: it has straight lines, square shoulders and is painted in primary colors: blue, yellow and red. According to its blog Kilian Nakamura, the robot has become a cult item over the past year and a USB version is already being produced.
At Curiosite we’re robot fans, that’s why we offer you two different models on our web site: a foldable paper Robot that you can put together yourself, like a cut-out, and a USB Robot that starts dancing when you hook it up to your computer.
This robot USB stick is a great idea for everyone, not just boys. What a wonderful idea to keep a memory stick inside the robbot!I think this toy is wonderful because it is both useful and also very cute. This would be a great gift for anyone who likes to work with computers and is great for kids too. What a great robbot!
