Those desperate posters offering rewards to anyone who helps find a lost dog or cat now have their days numbered. We are already more than used to finding our way while traveling by following instructions from our GPS navigator so, why not use it to find missing pets?

This is what Petsmobility suggests we do with Petscell, a pet collar with a built-in cell phone and GPS. If your dog gets lost, you won’t have to go around looking for him or plaster the entire neighborhood with posters, just ask your cell phone to tell you where he is and go out and retrieve him. It doesn’t matter where the little critter is hiding, because the gadget is water resistant and has an autonomy of up to five days.

The gadget’s main purpose is to help us locate our pets in case they get lost, but it also has other interesting functions. You can program it and define the area where your pet’s allowed to stray ; when he leaves that area, you’ll receive a warning on your cell phone.

You read that right before, the collar also has a built-in cell phone. Are you wondering why pets would need a phone? They don’t, but see how it’ll come in handy if your pet goes missing: you can contact your pet and order it to come back (whether or not he’ll obey is another matter) and, should your dog get lost, whoever finds him can contact you by simply pushing one of the three programmable buttons built into the collar. You can program a different phone number on each button: a number for emergencies, your cell phone or a relative’s phone number, etc.

The gadget costs 280€, perhaps the price is a bit steep, but surely your pet is worth it.
