Well, we all agree that reading is good and interesting and that libraries and bookstores are fascinating places. But, why can’t they build one in my local neighbourhood like Kids Republic, the best bookstore for children in the whole world? In exchange, I promise to read fifty books a year, that is, sitting inside one of those rounded windows.
Beijing houses since 2006 a bookstore called Kids Republic, the world’s best bookstore. In theory, it’s a kids only place, but we’re sure that parents have a great time there as well. It’s got two floors, both filled with colour, fantasy and imagination.
There we don’t find any of those boring square rooms filled with books and then a few fun tables. Do you see the sort of colourful serpents that go round all over the place? They’re the bookshelves, tangling around to create playful elements, turn into tables and cute hideouts for reading. This way, books and reading integrate nicely with a joyful playground.
As you see, the actual place and distribution is very well devised, as well as the selection of books so carefully listed. Also, the bookstore includes a reading room and an activities room –with a beautiful rainbow as the dominant element. That’s not all, the bookstore organizes and schedules thousands and thousands of activities. They even have a reading club for kids! That’s what we call an enthralling bookstore!
We would like to know if it’s compulsory to go escorted by a child. If that is so, we better start borrowing one.
