It does happen, whenever you leave the umbrella at home, it rains; but if you take it with you, clouds seem not to be willing to release one drop. Umbrella makers keep trying to make them more and more light and small, but that’s not enough. Eco Brolly could be the perfect solution.
Eco Brolly is an environmentally friendly umbrella or should we say, the skeleton of an umbrella; convenient to carry in your bag, keep it in the glove compartment of your car, and small enough to even take it in your pocket as it’s only eight centimetres (3”) long. This way, you will always be ready for any unexpected or bad time downpour.
Unscrew the top piece, poke the lid onto the middle of the newspaper, quick screw to secure it & open it out like ordinary umbrella. Yes, we are aware of some drawbacks. It won’t keep you perfectly dry, especially if you walk long time under heavy rain as newspapers have the tendency to disintegrate when they get wet, not to mention the risk of having ink running down and ruining your suit.
Eco Brolly is a Shiu Yuk Yuen idea. Shiu is a young Japanese designer, living in UK, who got inspired by those impromptu umbrellas we all improvise when we are caught umbrellaless in the rain: plastic bags, newspapers, piece of clothing, bags... And there’s more to it, according to the designer, its environmental friendly as you will be re-using that old newspaper or bag before throwing them away.
