Look At The Time, Watch Your Thumbnail

Big watches are not the trend. The future is calling for more discreet-sized watches: what about wearing them on a nail?

The time of ostentatious watches is over. Design and technology are setting absolute discretion, a timekeeping device that goes unnoticed and frees your wrists. At least, this is the proposal of TX54, a disposable timepiece that is worn on the user’s thumbnail.

TX54 is a tiny watch that sticks to your thumbnail, a translucent false nail that substitutes the usual nail polish for a more useful time&date display. When pressing the small button in its end, the watch shows the time and date, a selection of text colour options is available to change as you wish. Careful now when filing or polishing your nails!

It has been designed by Napoleon Merana, Steffen Schubert and David Takacs, and it was presented at "2154: The Future of Time Competition", a competition organized by Timex watches. TX54 was not “the” winner, but it was surely raising much expectation. By now it’s just a prototype of a timekeeping device for a future era, hopefully, a near future.
