Man breaks record catch using a Barbie fishing rod
Earlier in the year, another amateur had caught a big fish
Grandad holding the record-fish, little granddaughter holding Barbie rod
The fishing rod marketed by the Barbie doll company, is becoming a sure bet.
A few weeks ago, David Hayes, in Elkin, North Carolina, USA, caught such a big fishing trophy using a pink Barbie rod and reel that he’ broken a record.
The animal is a 21-pound and 32 inches long catfish. That’s 2 inches longer than the rod itself, property of little Alyssa –the lucky fisherman’s granddaughter.
Both, girl and grandfather, were fishing in the pond behind his house; the little girl went to the bathroom and granddad stayed holding the rod. He did hold it and nearly immediately, he landed a huge fish!
That’s not all, the little girl had already caught herself a few bluegill before the giant catfish bit the hook getting a state record for granddad.
Setting precedents in Texas
Back in January, in Rockport, south of Texas, amateur fisherman and professional photographer Kirk Swann and her little daughter of four, Phoebe, caught another big creature 40” long –taller than the girl- and weighting over 48 pounds.
Even better: the bait was a red plastic bug which comes with the Barbie fishing kit.
Judging by the fright face of the little girl, it is no surprise that after taking a closer look they put it back to the water. Even though it took them half an hour to land the monster.
Will the people at Barbie – who now are fighting hard to keep their crown jewel doll young and leading– start considering changing business or target market?
