Repurposed Polaroid Camera Bookends

Your old and unusable Polaroid camera could take on a new life if you’d just put a pair of legs on it and put it on your shelf. That’s how these bookends were made.

Polaroid cameras aren’t just for taking pictures, they can also hold books in place

Polaroid fans refuse to allow this photographic camera to disappear from our lives. They’ve tried it all: from creating a web page dedicated to "saving Polaroid", to creating software that generates images imitating the Polaroid’s style.

However the charm of snapshots photos taken in 4 steps, shoot-develop-wait-observe, seems to be slowly disappearing. The film is no longer manufactured and today’s digital cameras are small, compact and cheap. Some have come to accept this notion and have decided to reconvert their mythical Polaroid cameras into decorative vintage objects.

Such is the case of Roberta Grove, the artist who made these bookends using old Polaroid cameras.
She was selling them (they’re already sold out) on her page on Etsy, the web site dedicated to selling hand-made products.

She’s done more than just put them side-by-side on a bookshelf; she’s also fitted them with legs made out of wooden domino pieces. A detail that, when combined with the huge lens and square belly, seems to bring this inanimate object to life.

These very original bookends seem pleased with the new life their creator has given them.
