Everyone likes playing with Legos. They’re simple colored blocks, but you can use them to make thousands of different shapes. And wouldn’t it be all the more fun if you could decorate your works of Lego art with pieces of paper?
In keeping with its functional and minimalist style, Muji, the Japanese multinational brand that makes products for the home, has a great idea to help us enjoy Legos to the max. They’ve recently launched some very simple but very cute children’s toys. And now they’re introducing this new toy in conjunction with Lego. The idea is to play with pieces of paper, but also using Lego blocks.
The game’s concept is very simple. You have to cut out the paper shapes and make some holes in them with Muji’s special perforator. Then you fit the Lego pieces in the holes. It’s that simple, but if you use your imagination you can create thousands of shapes. So, using the Lego pieces, you can turn a figure drawn on sheet of paper into a 3-dimensional work of art. It’s also a good way to encourage communication between parents and children while creating some interesting works together.
If you don’t have Lego blocks, you Muji has prepared some special packs you can buy. They come with Lego blocks and some pre-perforated pieces of paper. There’s another version with transparent colored sheets of papers in addition to the standard pack. They also have thematic packs featuring fairy tales such as "Little Red Riding Hood" or "The Bremen Town Musicians". These look like a fun prop to use to play theater games with the kids. There’s also a special Christmas pack.
It’s a perfect gift for this holiday season, you can give the pack just as is, or make the figures yourself first and give them away. It’ll be on sale in Japan starting November 27th 2009.
