Gift Shops in Madrid
If you want to practice the delicate art of choosing the perfect gift, there are plenty of shops in Madrid, particularly in the neighborhood of Malasaña, where you’ll find gifts to suit all tastes. Or most of them, anyway… |

Your weird little nephew’s birthday, a wedding gift for that distant cousin you’re not really all that fond of, or a goodbye gift for your long-time colleague who is finally about to retire… Life is full of gift-giving occasions. And we’re all really pretty sick of always getting people the same gifts... But most of us simply don’t have time to rack our brains trying to be original and make sure the person we’re getting a gift for won’t respond with their best poker face when they open the package.
If you’re looking for a pretty gift with a romantic and retro touch, you’ll have a hard time choosing among the wide selection of products at Nest Boutique (Plaza de San Ildefonso, 3 - 91 523 10 61), one of Madrid’s most charming gift shops. The tables and shelves in this colorful little shop are filled with metal boxes sporting vintage illustrations that can be used to store cookies, old photos, or secrets; scented candles packed in metal tins with floral motifs; art deco lamps; glass and paper costume jewelry… And it’s no coincidence that Nest Boutique has a decidedly British touch, because the owner, Nadine Walker, is English.
Since just about everyone enjoys the movies, another safe bet, especially if you know the person’s favorite genre, is Cinemaspop (San Andrés, 32 - 914 45 98 59), a little specialty shop that's full of objects, merchandising and all sorts of products associated with the silver screen, including T-shirts, posters, postcards, toys and decorative home accessories or cooking utensils with a film motif. Who hasn’t had the urge to hang their favorite classic movie poster in their living room at some point?
Although it’s not specifically a gift shop, the “little Japanese department store” Muji (Fuencarral, 36-38 - 91 521 08 47 and Goya, 9 – 91 576 44 24) is an excellent place to find simple and understated gifts for friends and family members who appreciate minimalist design. Muji is has a store brand with items created by famous Japanese designers who abstain from signing the products in order to keep prices down. Simple and elegant stationary, wood or porcelain Hakuji cooking utensils, or speakers and clocks with a polished design are just some of the many things Muji has to offer.
One gift shop that has truly become a classic in Madrid is Popland (Manuela Malasaña, 24 – 91 591 21 20 and Fernando el Católico, 77 – 91 544 96 29). Popland is specialized in 70’s-80’s retro style and all things mod. Its wide range of gift items includes dozens of fun T-shirts with messages and logos, retro handbags, mugs decorated with pop culture motifs and campy key chains. Curiously enough, they also have a selection of vinyl singles by such legendary Spanish bands as Los Pekenikes and Los Relámpagos, just perfect for anyone looking for a cute vintage gift.
And, of course, our selection of gift shops in Madrid would not be complete without… our own shop: Curiosite (Corredera Alta de San Pablo, 28 – 902 027 131). While, in general, original gifts and gadgets are our hallmark, in our search for the perfect gift we also focus on other items such as designer cardboard furniture and decorative home accessories; or any product with an essential added twist or a sense of humor; or items that allow for multiple readings rather than being unambiguous. Although, we also have charming gifts that are simply pretty and have a delicate design... what really matters to us is to keep the art of gift-giving alive
