Sawa Tanaka has created a collection of screenprints made out of food coloring and flavors such as ketchup, fruit juice or ice cream.
These eggs and sausages aren’t fattening
At first glance, it looks like a simple drawing, but these screenprints are made on rice paper using only food and drinks for coloring. They have a very cool design, and they’re also edible.
Instead of using paint and ink to create these unusual plates of food, designer Sawa Tanaka has painted on paper using only food coloring and flavors. We can only hope the English Breakfast print won’t have the same result when you put it in your mouth that a plate of greasy eggs and sausages would, but the effect could be similar to that of the deconstructed cuisine that is now so in vogue.
For instance, the Soba Noodles screenprint is drawn with wasabi, noodle, onion, and shell fish flavors, so when you eat the paper (if you really dare eat it) these flavors blend in your mouth and can say you’ve eaten noodles without burning your tongue.
these screenprints are not for sale at the moment. But, some day, if they do make it out on the market, they may well revolutionize the world of food. We can already imagine snack bars that sell only screenprinted food, or restaurants that specialize in edible paper.
If you’re not into eating paper, you can just appreciate the design and frame them. A Blue Lagoon Cocktail screenprint would look great in any kitchen.
