Candy Grabber

Fishing the candy out with the hook is harder than it looks. We were forced to rely on a technique that, admittedly, is really for wimps: turning the candy grabber over and shaking it.

Don´t put any valuables inside... you may not see them again!

Don´t put any valuables inside... you may not see them again! It's more sophisticated than what I expected It comes with a pack of 25 plastic coins Fill the machine with candy or other stuff The coins will be gathered in this compartment on the bottom It's more dificult than what it seems, you have to practice all the time
We received the candy grabber Curiosite and very excitedly opened it. Even before the fairground music starts playing, the striped box looks very festive.

The package includes:
  • A candy grabber
  • A pack of 25 fake coins
  • Rather succinct instructions for use

It looks really cool, just like the picture, but when you take it out of the box it’s a little disappointing to see that it’s empty... so the first thing I did was fill it with all sorts of things. That was my first mistake! Before you get carried away, make sure you choose what you’re going to put inside very, very carefully. Consider how attached you are to these items, because once they’re in there you’ll have to use your own skill to get them out. How confident do you feel? If you’re a little clumsy, I recommend that you refrain but putting any valuables inside. Some candy or other yummy treats are perfect to start practicing.

Having cleared up this first point, you can start playing with it. Insert three C-batteries (you’ll need a little screwdriver to open the compartment), take the plastic coins out of their little bag and keep them on hand.

There’s still one more thing you’ll have to do before turning it ON: open the dome-shaped lid on top of the device and release the hook, which is what you’ll have to use to grab the candies. It comes rolled up in order to prevent it from hitting the walls of the device during transport or when you store it. It’s important that you follow instructions to carefully release the hook, because you can break a piece if you force it.

Now that the hook is loose, the hole on top is open and you can start putting the candy in (and remember the first piece of advice...) and when you’re done, you can hit the ON switch, located under the candy grabber. Insert a coin- they’ll be gathered in a compartment on the bottom- and it starts playing fair ground music.

This music is a little nerve-wracking, and it goes faster and faster in order to break your concentration and make you nervous. It lasts exactly 1 minute and 15 seconds, which is the time you’re given to fish something out. The controls are easy to manage, but if you’ve never played this game you’ll have to practice a bit.

The first time, I didn’t grab anything, even though I’d put some large objects in such as a rubber duck and a plastic mouse that seemed easy to catch. But when you manage to catch something, the satisfaction of seeing it come out the slot is very much worthwhile. I still have to figure out how to get my stuff out of there! It’s definitely a toy designed for children, and not because they are more skillful, but because their hands are smaller and they can use them to put them in the slot and steal the candy!
