James May, the famous TV host, has promised to move into this two-storey Lego house once construction is finished.
Each brick is made up of 272 Lego pieces
James May is a celebrity in the UK where he hosts his own program on the BBC. Some months ago, he won a prize for building a garden out of Plasticine and now he’s back in the news. This time, he’s decided to build himself a Lego house in the middle of a vineyard in Dorking, Surrey.
Thousands of people showed up to lend him a hand, but there were so many volunteers that there wasn’t enough room for all of them. The host had to hand out 1,200 tickets (free of charge) and turn another 1,500 "workers" away from the site. Children, retirees, tourists, and passersby all helped build the colossal work of art made out of one of the most successful toys in history.
The house is build on a wooden platform and each brick was created by assembling 272 Lego pieces. Three million pieces were used to build the platform alone, so, how many do you figure he’ll need to build the entire house?
Although it may seem like a joke, May is determined to move into the Lego house once construction is finished. The house will have two stories, and May has promised to fill it with Lego furniture and accessories. This is a dream come true for all of us who used to play with the interlocking plastic pieces as children. Now let’s just hope May turns the house into a hotel so we can all enjoy it!
