Toy cameras are very trendy these days. There are some models out on the market that take very artsy pictures in sharp colors, while other cameras only have a fish-eye lens and still others work only underwater. But, who could have imagined they’d come out with a camera that takes 3D photos? Takara Tomy’s 3D ShotCam does just that.
The camera is rectangular and has two lenses. It’s also digital and battery powered. When you make a postcard size print of a photo taken with this camera, you’ll get images from both these lenses on the same piece of paper. Use the viewfinder that comes with the camera to see the photo in 3D.
The viewer is made out of cardboard. In order to see the image in 3D, you have to adjust the photo’s size and insert it in the viewfinder. The camera also has two separate viewfinders (one for each eye). When you peek through the viewfinders, you’ll see the image in 3D.
The cardboard viewer can also be used as a postcard. Just stick a photo taken with the 3D ShotCam on the viewer and write a message on it. That way you can turn your favorite photo into a great gift for any occasion. You can give your sweetheart a 3D photo of yourself, send a 3D photo of your baby to your relatives abroad, or send a 3D photo of your wedding to your guests. Oh! And you can also buy extra viewers when you’re done with the ones included with the camera.
There are two different colored models: white and pink. The camera works with SD memory cards with up to 8GB capacity. The image quality is 0.3 mega pixels, which is not much compared with most digital cameras on the market, but it’s enough to have some fun. The 3D ShotCam will be on sale in Japan staring next spring.
